It is an invitation to witness brilliance through the lens of the black experience – to witness its texture, innovation, deep spirituality and unique intellectual offering to all mankind.
Dixon’s vision reveals that brilliance, through the lens of the black presenting skin, is a portal to empathy and Oneness. His vision is a calling for us to invite each other to sit in our collective brilliance in co-creating our humanity and existence itself.
He provokes us to mindfully deconstruct the illusion of the other and move beyond the myopic weaponized lens of the ego. Michele Zousmer
Michele Zousmer is a visionary fine art photographer who amplifies the voices of individuals and communities often marginalized by society. With each snapshot, she shows us the tapestry of human experience, casting light on lives that might have remained concealed in the shadows. Her work exemplifies the transformative power of this medium, as she possesses an extraordinary gift for immortalizing fleeting instances of grace and beauty that persist even amid life’s most significant challenges. Through her lens, she becomes a storyteller, an advocate, and a conduit for change, inviting viewers to journey into the worlds she captures. In doing so, she illuminates the threads that weave us all together.
Michele’s photographs of children picking coffee on the plantations in Costa Rica garnered the attention of the United States government, and Costa Rica became a socially responsible country. As a result, over 60 daycare centers were established, providing the children of these indigenous workers with a safe and warm place to stay. instead of working long days. She has helped change the perception of female convicts, spent the last dying days with a homeless man, and photographed Holocaust survivors and Rwandan genocide survivors, again changing the perception of how someone presents themselves to the outside world . Her work is intentional. She believes we all have a story ! We are all complex creatures.
Her first book MIS(S)UNDERSTOO D on the women in the Irish Traveller community has just been released. The Irish Travellers are a marginalized and discriminated community in Ireland. She is telling the story through the voices of the women who suffer severe hardships – poverty, domestic abuse, and suicide.
Michele has received many awards locally and internationally, which include two Humanitarian awards for her Child Labor work in Costa Rica and her short film ‘Sounds Of The Sidewalk: A Journey Of Goodbye.’ { homelessness}
Michele has brought her camera and her compassionate eye to 75 countries.
She is a generous person, someone who listens, who takes the time to know these people, who appreciates them for who they are, and respects them. She is not just looking at them but with them.
Currently, Michele is channeling her creative energy into a new project. She is co- producing “Brilliance Exposed” with Alexis Dixon, a compelling exhibit set to debut in spring 2025. This project is a testament to her continuous dedication to her craft and her commitment to shedding light on the stories that often go untold
